Diplomas

Because it is not possible to process final grades and prepare degree lists by Commencement Weekend, diplomas will be mailed approximately nine weeks after your conferral date. Additional diploma information can be found on the Registrar’s website.

Diploma Mailing Address
The primary address that will be used to mail your diploma is the “Diploma Address.” Students should check and update their “Diploma Address” at the Self-Service Application Directory. Additional information is available on the Registrar’s website.

Name Change
Diploma names are displayed on diplomas and are used in the Commencement Program, lists of graduates and Commencement related press releases. Examples of diploma names include: using a middle name instead of a first name; using an abbreviated name (Tom instead of Thomas); using an Americanized name (Wendy instead of Haiyan); or using a name that better reflects one’s ethnic, racial or gender identity. If you’d like to create a diploma name, please send an email to graduation@illinois.edu (include UIN) by March 31, 2024. Please be advised that in some situations the name appearing on your diploma may need to match other legal documents you possess.

If you have any questions about your diploma, please call the Office of the Registrar at (217) 333-6383.
